This, that & a giveway!

I have no excuses. 

The rest of the summer simply .... got away from me. 

Life got busy. 

My friend posted this on Facebook the other day:

"I'm eliminating the word "busy" from my vocabulary. It's a lazy, default answer to the questions "How's life? How've you been?"

There's no virtue in being busy and pretending to have more going on than others. We're all busy. We all have work to do, families to spend time with, friends to hang out with and support. 

Next time you ask me how life is, I'll have a better answer."

I love this. I am soooo guilty of saying life gets busy, I need more hours in the day, there's too much to do. Nobody has more than 24 hours in their day. I'm going to try to be better. I love my blog, my readers, my blogging friends, & I miss everyone. 

So what have I been up to since we last chatted?

* My son got his temps. He's been driving with me quite a few times & he's had his first behind-the-wheel lesson (on a dark, rainy, windy night, no less). I'm so happy for him I could cry. Ahem. 

* I've been seeing my brother about once a month. In September he & I hung out all day together, just the two of us. We went to the Farmer's Market, the lake, & he took me to lunch for my birthday. This month, I took the boys there & we attended a Science Festival, went to lunch at the University Union, & went for frozen custard. My SIL & niece went too & it was just a fun day hanging out with them. 

* Working LOTS. New account for our company = lots of extra hours for Michelle!

* Getting ready to get some much needed improvements/ repairs done on our house. Some major, some minor, all necessary. Will take photos as we go! 

* As "busy" as I am, I am finding more time for my friends. I find myself meeting friends for coffee, drinks, & dinner a lot more often than I used to. My boys are older now, so I don't have to try to work around my husband's schedule if I want to make plans. I just do. If the boys are home alone, so be it. They spent all summer alone together (LOL "alone together"? I'm pretty sure that's an oxymoron. Or something like that.) They have become responsible, trustworthy young men & I am so proud & grateful for both of them. 

*Last weekend, the boys & I went to the zoo for their Halloween goings-on. Fun all around. I shared these on Facebook but in case we are not friends on FB, or you missed them, here's a quick recap of our day: 

It was another perfect day spent with my boys! 

And .... if you've stuck with me through this whole post & all the pictures .... I have a small giveaway. I've been trying like mad to get rid of all my stamps & supplies. I've sold some on Ebay, some on SCS, some here (see my For Sale page) & some through Craigslist. I'm running out of time (there's that busy thing again) & patience. So .... every once & a while I will be giving something away. Nothing big .... just a stamp here .... maybe a pad of paper there .... 

Today, I choose Juliette's Leap of Faith from High Hopes. You can see the image on their web site HERE. It was drawn by my favorite artist, Crissy Armstrong. I loved being on the High Hopes design team & will always love every stamp of theirs. Some I will never let go of. But it's time for at least a few of them to live somewhere where they may receive a bit more love than I can give them. Hi everyone & happy Monday! Did you all have a good Easter? I am STUFFED like a turkey (even though we had ham lol). So. Much. Food. The Easter Bunny spoiled my boys as usual......

Michael found his basket in the very first place he looked. I think he spied on the Bunny! I told him not to go through his basket until Matthew found his....hmmmmm......hands OFF the Peeps, Michael!

While Michael went to help Matthew find his, Elwood checked to see if the Bunny might have left anything for him in Michael's basket.......

Nothing but chocolate & Peeps in here. Darn bunny!

(actually I caught him licking a Peep, lol .....shhhhhhh)

After about 20 minutes of searching Matthew muttered "Well this is embarrassing" lol. He finally found it a few minutes later.

I PROMISE when I win the lottery & can quit my job, I will post every day. Until then, I squeeze in what I can. Wow, has it really been 3 years since I got the crazy idea to join the blogging world? Well --Happy Birthday to my Blog! It doesn't see quite as much action as it used to, but then again neither do I, bahahaaaaaa!

Christmas Candy!!!!

Hello everyone & happy Sunday!!! I did not have a very productive week last week, to say the least! I was sick ALL weekend, so I'm still catching up on household chores & errands. On Wednesday I had to pick up my 8 yr old from school, I think he had the same thing. So....between a couple of us trying to mend & work & extracurricular activities .....& now Thanksgiving this week.....I'm feeling a bit rushed & out of sorts!!!

So to make up for my absence this week I thought I'd offer a small bit o' candy :)

A day at the zoo, & a wee bit o' Halloween candy.....

Hello everyone, & happy Halloween!! The boys & I had such a fun day yesterday --they had off of school for teachers convention & I took off of work. We decided to go to the zoo, since we hadn't been there in a while. I knew they were having their Trick or Treat there at night, but we decided to go early & avoid the crowds. Well as the day came to an end, we decided to stay for the Trick or Treat -- so we were there almost 8 hours! I wish I had worn my pedometer ----we walked the zoo twice, & then some. But it was soooooo fun --we had gone years ago & I think they had just started doing it, there weren't many stops & not much candy. And we gone on Saturday afternoon. It was SO MUCH MORE FUN walking around the zoo at night. They had HUNDREDS of pumpkins all lit up, & a light display set to music, & tons of Trick or Treat stops for the kids. We had a great time -- I just HAD to share some pictures with you!! Bear with me, there might just be a TREAT at the end!!




They had a ton of these fabulous displays, which were way cooler at night, all lit up!





My boys complained every time I wanted to take their picture, but I think they actually enjoyed posing with the mummies :)





Aliens! I wish I had gotten a picture of this display after dark ---it was sooooo cool ---it was like Close Encounters, LOL!!




This turned out kind of blurry --but the worker was PETTING the octopus --see his hand in there?? I swear his eyes were rolling in the back of his head he was so happy (the octopus, not the worker).

This is probably one of the best pictures I have of my two boys ---at the time I didn't think it turned out that well but was pleasantly surprised when I uploaded it!





This pumpkins hails from Eagle River, WI & is the biggest at 944 lbs!!





Ok I *think* Michael is rolling is eyes in this one.....





They had a scarecrow sitting on the bench outside one of the Trick or Treat stations. I told them I wanted separate pictures of them with the scarecrow.





This picture was taken right before the scarecrow turned toward Matthew & put his hand on his shoulder. Yep, it was a human & it scared the CRAP out of Matthew. I actually had my head down & was putting my camera in my purse when it happened so I missed it ----but I did hear the screams, lol. Oh that would have been SUCH a great picture!



And, for bearing with me & all my pictures --I am offering a small piece of candy. I recently came across a spare High Hopes stamps so I thought I would share with one of you...Fairy Princess. My fav summer supper (for sweets that is - send hubby out to BBQ for main course to keep mess out of kitchen) is rock melon (canteloupe) diced into small pieces, add to bowl with strawberries which have been cut in half, then add small pieces of crystallised ginger. Let it sit for awhile to marinate the flavours together, then serve with real vanilla icecream. Then try to stop yourself from coming back for a 2nd helping :-0

Blog candy....

Hello all....Happy Wednesday! Nope, I don't have my blog candy ready yet.....but a good friend of mine has an amazing array that she is giving away!!! Check out the HH DIVA/artiste extraordinaire herself.....CRISSY!!!! She has a grand prize.....a second prize....& a third & fourth prize!!! Makes my blog candy look piddly....so I'll just wait a few days to post mine, lol!!

Actually, I am taking a few days off. I just finished a few Etsy orders....& I'm carded out. I haven't received my new High Hopes images yet, either, & I was really hoping to do a sneak peek or two (Crissy also has a few of those on her blog!!!) but it works out because honestly, I am burnt out. I am sad. The whole job thing has really gotten me down. I know I'm not the only one....but I've been looking for quite a while now & it really shoots down one's self esteem to send resume after resume, only to hear nothing. I keep questioning my decision 10 years ago to quit an EXCELLENT job that I absolutely LOVED to stay home with my new baby. I know in my heart I did the right thing by staying home with my kids....but never in a million years did I believe I'd be trying to go back to work in an economy such as this. My husband's hours have been cut.....he's only been working 3 weeks out of the month....& now today I found out his unemployment has been lowered. So......I need to take a few days to regroup & charge my battery. I'm going to spend time playing games with my kids....because they make me smile :)

Well, I finally got my blog candy together!! I've been working hard at organizing all of my High Hopes rubber, & came across some extras from the Sea Life release last year. I meant to post this candy sooner, but I really wanted to include a card made with the stamps the winner will receive. Sickness has bogged me down this week....I was nauseous for a few days (although, knock on wood, it wasn't the nasty stomach bug going around, which I seem to get every year. Must have been an itty bitty bug that doesn't knock you completely out, just makes you queasy for a few days) & yesterday & today my 6 year old was sick. What's even better are the shapes....the Xmas trees, the eggs, the pumpkins...I don't know if they put more peanut butter in those or what, but they just taste yummier!!!

OK, I just remembered that for my last blog candy, before Xmas, I asked you to name your favorite Xmas cookie. Favorite cookie, favorite candy....that really tells you something about me, doesn't it?? Yep, I could subsist on cookies & candy if I had my way!!!
