9-11-01.....where were you??

Matthew & I usually watched Nickelodeon in the mornings. Blue's Clues was his favorite show & we never missed it. For some reason, on the morning of 9-11-01, I turned the news on instead. I have no idea why & I don't remember Matthew's reaction to me turning that on instead of Nick Jr. But I do remember my reaction when I saw the image of the first tower burning....on the tv screen....I kept thinking I had turned on a movie instead of my local news. But it wasn't a movie, it was very real. To say the least, I was glued to the tv for the rest of the day, as was the rest of the world. I watched the second plane hit. I watched all day as news came in about the Pentagon......the Pennsylvania field......all that smoke......all those people.........I cried. I didn't know how to explain it to Matthew, who was almost 3 at the time. He's almost 10 now, & still doesn't understand. Do any of us understand???

My thoughts & prayers are with the families who lost loved ones on this horrible day that changed America forever. Where were you when this tragedy occurred??

I was just about to do my morning workout routine, which I did while watching morning news shows. The show was interrupted with the news flash of the first plane hitting. From my perspective, and with little knowledge of the Trade Center, I thought it was a small aircraft that had had a horrible accident. But as I watched the second plane hit, and heard the reporter use the word "attack", I suddenly knew. I too was glued to the tv, the rest of the day, and was very emotional. I remember the eerie feeling I got when I went outside and heard almost no traffic on the streets and no planes in the skies. It was like a sudden hush had come over the whole town, as everybody was watching the events on their tv's. Yes, God help and bless those families today whose lives were forever altered by this tragedy.

I know exactly what you mean---you don't forget where you were and the reaction of everyone around you. I was at home when the first plane hit and thought, oh wow--- what a horrible mistake--- then I was driving when the news came on and broke the news with the 2nd plane--- When I got to work, no one was saying a word and everyone in my office sat quietly in the breakroom watching our country under attack. Very sobering and something I'll never forget. We remember and think about it often, but those families impacted have a reminder every minute of every day. God bless all of them!

I was actually in my OB/Gyn's office for my annual visit. I was in the waiting room and the news was on. They were already running behind at 9:05am so I just watched one of the morning newscasters (I think Bryant Gumble?) talking about this plane that ran into the building. But as I sat there waiting for my appointment, I actually saw the live feed of the 2nd plane crashing! They had a witness on the phone at the time who was saying "this was no accident" (talking about the first crash)...then all of a sudden, the 2nd one hit! After a few more minutes, they finally called me in. The doctor was still trying to work, but everyone was talking about it in the office. When I went to check out, the news announced that the Pentagon got hit, too! I got in my car and the radio had live news broadcast. I remember calling my mom because it was her 1st Wedding Anniversary to my step father (nice, huh?). My mom picked up the phone with this cheery voice and I said...you aren't watching the news are you? I told her to turn the tv on. At that time, I heard on the radio about the plane in Pennsylvnia. My sister was on vacation in PA and Buffalo, NY. I tried to call her on her cell phone, but she didn't answer. Then I called my father (who was a pilot for the US Post Office at the time) to make sure he was safe. He was home because he was not working that week. He said he had just spoken with my sister and she was safe. It was a horrible, horrible day. Everyone at work was trying to do their job just to get by while also trying to get in touch with loved ones...so many people have connections to NY city!! I think I cried for weeks. I actually ended up on Migraine medicine because of all of the headaches from crying! So sad...
But, they have not defeated us! The Lord is our Shepard, we shall not fear...

I was 17 and on my first day of a babysitting job. I was trying to feed one child and the other two were carrying on that there were no cartoons on. After I flipped all of the channels thinking it was a movie or something I turned up the sound and then they showed the second plane. That was the first time in my whole life I realised that there is more in the world other than Australia and I remember crying because I had seen movies about bad things happening but I didn't realise until then that they happened in real life. I layed on the couch and watched it the entire day... I still cant grasp it.

I was at work and someone said a plane hit the twin tower. Didn't believe it, couldn't comprehend it. I remember exactly what I was wearing and where I was sitting. We still live in the greatest country in the world and I thank God for all those that keep us safe....
