It must be a bee of some sort but it's HUGE -- & kind of soft like a moth. That's a petunia he's sitting on so you get an idea of the size. So let's see ---what sucks on flowers like a bee, has wings like a hummingbird & a body like a moth? It's a Robin Williams joke LOL (if you've never seen his "Live at the Met" then you have no idea what I'm talking about -- but his bit about the platypus is hilarious!!)
If you know what it is, please share. I was going to Google it but how can I when I don't what it is? LOL

Hi, at a guess I would say it is a hummingbird hawk moth but don't quote me on that just in case I'm wrong. Hope this helps, take care Ann-Marie xxx.
Wow, different looking! We've had a tiny little hummingbird in our petunias. :)
Well hunny, if it flies like a hummingbird and looks like a moth, I'd take a pretty good guess at it being a Hummingbird Hawkmoth Hugs, Sxx
I think it is a Hummingbird moth too - but perhaps a Hummingbird clearwing because you can see through a section of the wings. I probably would have run away screaming instead of photographing it - big, buzzy things freak me out since I was set upon by a swarm of European wasps many years ago.
