High hopes challenge #37, & my blogoversary!!!!

Good morning, my lovely blog readers!!!! Today is a very special day for me.....one year ago today I decided to join the crazy world of blogging. I balked for a long time....I thought it would take wayyyy too much time....but I decided to take the leap & I'm so glad I did!! I have met sooooo many wonderful people in the past year.....thank you so much to all of you who visit, leave comments, email me, & have become my friends. I'm still waiting for a package from High Hopes in order to put together my blog candy.....but it should be any day now so be sure to check back!!!!

Today's card is actually for Sunday's High Hopes challenge.....to use stars or stripes on your card. Can you believe I don't have *any* star punches OR dies??? Tsk.....I'll have to do something about that!!

I used the adorable Singing Catrina from the last release.....& yes, she's decked out in some BRIGHT clothes so you might want to get your shades!! I used Certainly Celery for the base, & some papers from the DCWV Nana's Kids stack for the background & the oval. She is colored with Prismas & gamsol.....& I added Stickles to her jackets & belt. Aren't all those young stars all about bling??? Actually, the jacket & belt are more purple IRL, they are showing up quite pink on my monitor. I added the "You Rock" sentiment, also from the last release, along with some ribbon, plus some matching Primas in the corner. Voila.....a perfect birthday card for that Hannah Montana/Demi Lovato/High School Musical lovin' girl!!!

Here's a close up of Catrina & all of her sparkle!!

The inside is fairly simple....I just added some punched flowers using the same paper I used on the front.

Thanks for checking in, I hope you have a wonderful day!! The temps really dropped here....it's only about 60 after many days in the 80's & 90's. Perfect day to play outside!!!! And as soon as I get that beautiful package from Canada......I will be posting my candy so be sure to keep an eye out for it!!!!! Thanks so much for visiting.....today & every day for the past year.....I appreciate each & every one of you!!!!!

Riley in the garden

Good evening, & happy Friday!!! It was a beautiful day out today....my kids played outside alllllll day.....which was wonderful....& we have a busy weekend ahead of us. I did *finally* get a card done....I kept it pretty simple though.

I used an older Riley stamp.....but it's one of my favorites. I used my Copics, since there wasn't much to color, lol. But the green on his boots was way too green, so I covered them in Stickles. Every moose has glittery garden boots, right? I got to use my new Basic Grey Urban Prairie pad (I *still* have credit at my LSS....& there's another rummage in a few weeks...which means more credit.....yay!!).....the matting is Bazzill Bling. I also used my Martha butterfly punch, which is *kinda* new. I bought it about 6 months ago, & it sat here in its box until I finally used it today!! Butterflies just never seem to "go" with my cards, & I was ready to just pass it on to someone. But I used it on this card & I think I need to use it more. I added a few small pearls & I think it looks cute!! A big ole Prima bunch in the corner & it was done.....I love this paper so much, I didn't want to cover it with "stuff" (did I really just say that?)

Here's a close up of Riley....watering his flowers....er....FLOWER. I did a lot of watering myself today.....but I forgot to wear my sparkly green garden boots :(

Here's the inside....I kept it VERY plain, but I did punch 2 butterflies out of the paper I used on the front....& added Cotton Candy Stickles down the middle. Sorry about the streaky picture....I didn't realize the sun was streaming in our window when I took it....duh....

And I just had to share this picture of our goofy cat.....

We have 2 cats....Jake & Elwood. They are brothers, & they will be 14 in August. Jake is diabetic, so he gets cranky & doesn't really let the kids hold him. He will come to them for petting, but usually 10 seconds is all he needs & he's done. Then there's Elwood.....he used to weigh 26 pounds. Yes, you read that right....26 pounds. When I realized Jake would do better on an all canned food diet, Elwood had to switch too. Couldn't feed one dry & one canned. Well, Elwood proceeded to lose 7 pounds over the next 10 months, & now he's 19 pounds. Still big, but much healthier. And as you can see......a BIG BABY!!! He lets the boys do whatever with him....Michael lays his head on him.....he sleeps with them.....& he hangs out on their laps. What a big furry goofball!!

Well that's it for now. I don't know if I'll get a card done for the High Hopes challenge this week....I haven't even started & I will be gone all day tomorrow. Gosh, I sound like a broken record....I'm pretty sure I typed those same words *last* week, lol.

Oh, & my blogoversary is in just a few days!!! I can't believe I've been blogging a whole year already!! And did ya notice my followers......I just reached 100!!! What great timing!! I wanted to start my blog candy ON my blogoversary......but I'm waiting for some High Hopes stamps to add to it, so it will start when that goodie package arrives!! Stay tuned!!

Have a great weekend!!!

No new card....but a recipe!!

Good morning all!!! Hope your week is going well. It has been HOT here in Wisconsin. Of course, because this is the week Matthew has golf camp. Last week was cooler, & he had basketball camp....indoors, of course. It seems every year he signs up for the wrong week. 2 years ago it was so hot, he felt sick & I had to get him early one day. He's held up well so far.....but it's been 90 every day & HUMID. Icky sticky!!!

I have nothing new to show you.....besides running around to golf camp & the hospital, where my grandma was taken on Tuesday (she's almost 90.....so unfortunately a trip to the ER is becoming a weekly thing), I have been dealing with some tendinitis in my right arm. I had it years ago when I did data entry for a few years....but haven't had a recurrence until a few days ago. Probably from all the weeds I've pulled in my gardens the last couple of weeks. Makes it painful to stamp.....type....even just write. I'm due to get my new stamps from High Hopes any day now, & I sure hope I'm able play right away. I'm trying to rest my arm as much as possible....I haven't even been blurfing as much as I usually do.....but I did want to post a recipe today!!!! One that will surely cool you down!!!

RIBBON ICE CREAM PIE

Place 1 pint vanilla ice cream in large bowl; stir until smooth but not melted. Spread into bottom of a ready-made pie crust (graham cracker or chocolate cookie....whichever you prefer...the recipe says chocolate cookie....but I usually use the graham cracker). Freeze 30 minutes until just firm. Repeat as above with 1 pint chocolate ice cream, then 1 pint strawberry ice cream. Cover & freeze until firm. Before serving, slightly warm 1/4 cup fudge sauce in microwave. Drizzle over pie; garnish with strawberries.

I *think* I got the recipe from Taste of Home, one of my favorite magazines. If you've never paged through one of their magazines, then you should at least check out their website....they have such yummy stuff!!! If you make this I'd love to hear some feedback!!! It's always gone within 24 hours when I make it......really, what's not to love????

Hopefully I will have a new card to show you soon!!!! Sorry for the delay.....all these aches & pains that come with getting older....it all stinks!! LOL!!

High Hopes challenge #36 ~ scraps

Good morning all!! Quick post this morning....just want to share my card for High Hopes challenge #36 ~~ to use up your scraps!!

I wasn't sure I'd get this done.....I was gone most of the day yesterday.....but finished it at about 11:45 pm, lol. This sweet image is Girl Talk from the last release.....colored with Prismas...& I used some scraps from my favorite K&Co pad, Wild Raspberry. The layout is from Friday Sketchers, but I flipped it & left out the sentiment. Punched some flowers & leaves....added some brads....I think I should have added something else....it looks a bit bare (maybe the sentiment that was actually in the sketch? LOL)....but I didn't really want to cover any more of the papers....did I mention I *heart* the Wild Raspberry papers??

Be sure to check out the other Divas' creations at the High Hopes blog.....& everyone has scraps lying around....so why not join in?? You could win some fabulous HH goodies!!

Hope you have a terrific Sunday, & Happy Fathers Day to all the dads out there!! My dad died about 6 years ago, so it will be a tough day for me.....good thing I'll be with my kids all day....they always put a smile on my face!

Wacky Mother Nature

Well, it has been a crazy few days around here. I don't have a card to show you, but I do have a couple of pics & some stories. It's all about nature in this post!

First, yesterday around dinner time, Michael said "Look Mom....a dead bird on our deck". Ugh. I looked, & sure enough, there was a bird flat on its back, feet straight up in the air. I thought at first it was a sparrow, but upon further inspection I noticed it was black & white. Double ugh....a downy woodpecker. I was so sad.....& was prepared to move it away....but then my mom called & as I was talking to her, it started to move. Good thing she called or I would have been disposing of a not-so-dead bird! My poor mom...the whole conversation was about this bird, lol. It eventually got on its feet....& I noticed it didn't look like a downy....it had red on top of its head instead of in the back. I looked at my bird book, & came to the conclusion that it might be a hairy woodpecker. Which are usually quite large, which meant this was probably a baby :( It was only about 5 inches long, & the poor thing was wobbling on its feet like a Weeble.....blinking....almost falling asleep. My mom said I would need to wake it every 2 hours in case of a concussion...lol. Anyway, I didn't want to scare it, but decided it needed some food & water....so I took some out to it. I think it was petrified, poor thing. I had also grabbed my camera.....& got a fairly good picture (don't worry, I wouldn't post this picture if the outcome wasn't good)

How cute is it?!?!?!!! I was worried because it just sat there for what seemed like forever. I went upstairs to fold some laundry....& Michael yelled "Mom!! It's eating!". By the time I came back downstairs.....it had flown away. Whew!!!! I was really worried about it.....my mom said it shouldn't have taken so long to fly away....but I think because it was a baby it took a bit longer to get its bearings. Or....since it flew into our patio door.....it took that long for it to decide it would try flying again. Since the first time didn't go so well......he was probably waiting around for a taxi!

We've had some crazy storms here the last few days. Last night was awful. Michael came into my room around midnight....the thunder & lightning was soooooo loud. I turned on the tv.....to find there was a tornado warning in our area. So I woke up Matthew & we all went downstairs (hubby stayed in the living room watching tv......dork....). We sat & watched the weather radar....until our power went out. Sigh. We sat in the dark for about 1/2 hour, until the storms settled down.....then groped back upstairs in the dark. Yes, we have flashlights....they just weren't handy...lol. The boys went back to bed & I laid there until the power came back on.....4:17 am. I am a bit sleepy today....& as I write this.....it is once again thundering & raining out. Lots of flooding in the area....crazy crazy summer weather in the midwest!

And for my final nature story....not really a story....just an observation. Here is a picture of my peony plant....

What's wrong with this picture???? It's ONE plant. It used to be white. As you can see, 2 of the flowers ARE white, & the rest are pink. I'm not an expert on peonies.....um.....can they change color over the years?? We've been here 7 years, & they've ALWAYS been white. Really!! And we only have one plant.....so it didn't hug another, or anything like that. I'm not complaining....I like the pink....but really, how odd!!!!!

I am working on a card for Sunday's High Hopes challenge, but I will be gone most of the day tomorrow so I don't know if I'll get it done on time. Of course, if I had skipped posting just now, I'd be almost done with it, lol. I'm pathetic when I make a card. I'll color a bit.....blurf for a bit....color a bit more.....check out a few SCS threads.....cut some papers.....email some friends....lol. I'm pretty sure I have ADD!!!

Oh, I almost forgot....I got an award!!

This is from Karen.....who apparently just started reading my blog & had the sweetest things to say!! Thank you so much Karen....please go visit her blog Creations by KW!

As long as I'm rambling tonight, I wanted to ask you all to keep your fingers crossed for me as I search for a job. I know....me & everyone else....so many people have lost their jobs. I haven't lost one....but my husband's is not looking good....his hours have been cut & with school out I need to find something soon!! For some reason, the school district doesn't want to pay me over the summer, lol. I had decided last September that I would sub for a year, & if I was offered a job in the district, great, but if not I would need to look for something more permanent. If I don't find anything this summer, I will of course sub again.....but I have been sending out a lot of resumes & doing a lot of online searching.....so please keep me ......& everyone else who is looking.....in your thoughts!!

Sorry for the long & probably boring post.....lol...I promise next time I'll have a card to show you!!!! Have a great weekend, my friends!!!!!

Teddy's Travels & the Brewers game!

Happy Tuesday all!! Hope your week is going well. We had a blast at the Brewers game on Sunday.....I have pictures below so if you're interested...stay tuned! If you're not....no hard feelings.....take a gander at the card then you can be on your merry way :)

I absolutely love Rachelle Anne Miller images. They are soooo adorable....but I have a really hard time coloring them. I don't have any actual stamps....but I received this image in my Christmas card from Tammi Buck, who is one of my suppliers, lol. Seriously, she has sent me sooo many images....thank you Tammi!!

So.....what better way to color an image you're not good at coloring, than with a medium you're also not good with. Yep, I used my Copics for this one. I knew I wanted to use papers from the DCWV Citrus stack....so I did my best to match. Maybe it's because I don't have *nearly* enough Copics that I find it hard to color with them. I used 2 different papers from the stack.....plus Real Red for the base & matte....& I cut 2 of the flowers from other papers in the stack. Yes, that big one was a bear to cut!! If you know me, you know I hate cutting, lol. Maybe it's because I never learned how. I never went to kindergarten....& to this day I give my mom a hard time about that. The flower on top was easier, but seriously, it took me about 1/2 hour to cut that big one!! By that time I was done. I cranked out a Cuttlebug corner....added some glitter & faux Dew Drops & I was done!! I was going to add ribbon under the main image, but I had already glued it to the other layer.....oops....I really need to think these things through better!

Close up of Lily....

And now for pictures from our day at Miller Park!! We had so much fun....even though the Brewers LOST 5-4 :( But it was an exciting game.....a few homers so we even got to see Bernie go down the slide!!

Here are the boys in front of the Harley Davidson deck....

And the must have picture, the boys with one of the sausages.....the Chorizo.....(for those who have never seen a Brewers game, they always have a sausage race during the 5th inning. Well, it IS Milwaukee, ya know, lol....)

Our seats were right near the Kid Zone....which is full of free activities for the kids. They had a fast pitch area, a "beat the Brewer" where the kids run against a Brewer....& lots of photo ops, like this one....

We had great seats.....8 rows up, 2 sections away from the Brewers dugout! We found out that these were $48 seats!!! $192 in tickets.....FREE!!! I will never see those seats again....sigh....

This is how close we were.....sigh again....

And last but not least....the best part.....when Matthew got to lead the base run after the game. He not only got to lead the other kids.....he had his name announced over the PA....& as you can see from this picture....he was on the Jumbotron!!! You can see Michael took full advantage of Matthew's good luck....lol....

It was a great day that we will cherish forever. BUT....can you believe this....LAST night's game the Brewers won 14-12!!!! Can you imagine how exciting THAT game must have been?? And not only that, Prince Fielder hit his first career grand slam home run!!!! Boy, I would have LOVED for that to have happened on Sunday!!!

Well if you made it this far, thanks for looking at my pictures! It was an exciting day for all of us, one that we will not soon forget. Thanks to Great Clips & the Brewers for making it happen!!!

High Hopes challenge #35

Good early Sunday morning to you all!!! I am up early today because today is the day we are going to the Brewers game!! Matthew won tickets through a contest, & we have to be at the stadium by noon to pick them up. We are all so excited!!!!

Today's challenge on the High Hopes blog is Lotsa Circles!!! You can really go crazy with this .....punches......dies.....brads....eyelets....designer paper.....embossing...anything with circles on it!!

I chose to use this adorable bee from the last release. Unfortunately, she's not on the website yet. I know one of the other Divas asked about it a few days ago, & for some reason it just hasn't been added yet. If you'd like to order her, I would give Tina or Bethany a call at High Hopes!! I will keep an eye out, & if she does get added sometime soon, I will update this post!!

Anyway, I colored her with my Prismas & gamsol. I had tried watercoloring her.....but it didn't go so well. So, I reached for my trusty Prismas & tried again. I added lots of Dazzling Diamonds glitter to her wings.....used some Nesties for the circles....& added white dots with acrylic paint, because EVERY ONE of my gel pens has died!! Sheesh!! The papers are SU's Basic Black, Rose Red, & K&Co Wild Raspberry. I added some polka dot ribbon & some flower/leaf combos, & some bling (which I colored pink with my Copics) in the opposite corners. Do you think I have enough circles???

Hopefully you can see her blingy wings in this picture....

Here's a closeup of the "flower". It's kind of like Lesa's flower.....but I used the Cuttlebug scalloped circle dies instead.....3 different sizes....& mushed them a bit...added a brad & called it a flower :)

Be sure to check out the other fabulous circle-y creations on the High Hopes blog!!

Well I hope you all have a splendid Sunday!! If you're watching the Brewers game on tv....watch for us on the 1st base line. Matthew gets to have his name announced over the PA at the end of the game, then lead the base run after. I think this will be just too much excitement for a 10 year old!! LOL!!

Bet you thought I forgot about recipe Thursday!

LOL...I know I skipped a few weeks of recipes....guess I should have a disclaimer on my blog stating that I just won't get to it every week! Here's something yummy & summery.....my grandma used to make this all the time & I just love it. I recently saw it in a magazine & it reminded me I have to make it!! Like this weekend!!

JELLO PRETZEL SQUARES

2 cups finely crushed pretzels
1/2 cup sugar, divided
2/3 cup butter, melted
12 oz cream cheese, softened
2 TBSP milk
1 8 oz carton Cool Whip
2 cups boiling water
1 6 oz pkg strawberry Jello
1 1/2 cups cold water
1 qt strawberries, sliced

Heat oven to 350. Mix pretzel crumbs, 1/4 cup sugar & butter; press onto bottom of 13x9 pan. Bake 10 minutes; cool. Beat cream cheese, remaining sugar & milk until blended. Stir in Cool Whip; spread over crust. Refrigerate. Add boiling water to Jello in large bowl; stir 2 minutes until completely dissolved. Stir in cold water. Refrigerate 1 1/2 hours or until thickened. Stir in strawberries; spoon over cream cheese layer. Refrigerate 3 hours or until firm.

Does that sound yummy, or does that sound yummy?? I remember making this for my older son's birthday party a few years ago, & I didn't even get any of it!! It's a perfect summer dessert.....enjoy!!!

Sweet dreams

Good Wednesday afternoon, peeps!! Hope you're having a fab week. Today it's finally nice out....it's been rainy & dreary & cold the last few days & not feeling like summer vacation at ALL. Today is perfect!!

I had time this morning to finish up this card.....using Sweet Dreams from High Hopes' last release. I colored the image with Prismas & gamsol & added a bit of Certainly Celery sponging to the background (probably can't see that, can you?). I used SU's Basic Gray for the card base, Rose Red for the matte & the pretty floral paper is K&Co Madeline. I did a bit of stitching (I think I've finally mastered the zig zag stitch, lol) & made a Lesa Rapp flower from Rose Red cardstock. Her tutorial is HERE. She has moved on to bigger & better things....like the beautiful flower Nestie dies....but alas, we're on a strict budget so none for me....these will have to do!! It ended up being a bit bigger than I had anticipated....so I added the 3 pseudo Dew Drops to the bottom right corner (these are the cheapie ones from Michael's).

Boy....I sure wish I were doing some of this right now.....zzzzzzzz....

Here's a close up of the flower. They are really fun to make.....be sure to check out Lesa's tutorial. Heck, check out her whole blog, if you haven't before!! You might want to wait until you have an extra hour or two, though....you don't want to skip over anything!!

Thanks so much for visiting!! My one year blogoversary is quickly approaching (has it really been a year already??) & so I'm gearing up for some blog candy!!! Stay tuned.......

You're special

Ahhhh....summer vacation. I still feel like crap & we reached a high of about 60 today. We had a storm come through around 3:30....tornado warning & everything. In fact, I believe a tornado actually did touch down in the next town over. Lots of trees down, & power outages. My husband called from work, frantic when he heard a tornado had come through. But we got very lucky. Just a rainstorm....no wind, nothing. We actually had quite a storm overnight as well....I woke up around 3 & checked our basement, it was that ferocious. Welcome to June in Wisconsin!

If you are a regular visitor, you know I *heart* Hanglars. My friend Nikki sent me some a while back.....& they're almost all gone! I've seen some of the newer images & they are soooo cute. *hint hint* I colored this cutie with Prismas & gamsol, & used DCWV papers (solid) & The Paper Studio (pattern). The tag is from a huge container I got about a year ago at Michael's. The flowers were a gift last year from Tina, the owner of High Hopes. I sprayed them with Glimmer Mist......I don't think you can see the shimmer but they are really pretty IRL.

Here's a close up.....I also have a boy Hanglar on a bike...hope to use that one soon....I could add some bandages on his knees & he could be my son!! LOL!!

Here's my attempt at photographing the shimmer on the flower....but it looks like it's just a flower...lol....

My clematis is blooming, but it's very patchy.....I can never seem to do right by this plant. Some say cut it in the fall, some say leave it alone. No matter what I do I just don't get the abundance of flowers that I've seen others get. Well, this clump is very pretty.....just pretend my whole plant looks like this!!

I also wanted to let you know.....for anyone who cares....that by the end of the month I won't be listing cards on Ebay anymore. It has become wayyyy too expensive...all the fees....& now the FREE listing service I've been using since I started listing has decided to start charging per transaction. As well as my cards do on Ebay, I feel I'm giving half of it back....to Ebay...to Paypal...& now to the listing service. So, all my cards will be listed in Etsy from now on. Here's a link to my store. There's also a link in my sidebar. I've had it up & running for a while now, but haven't had much time to get a lot listed. I'm hoping to get a lot more in there in the next few weeks. I thank all of you who have bought from me on Ebay, & hope you will continue to do so now that I have moved! I have a couple of listings left on Ebay, which will end in a few days....& I will still continue to list stamps & other miscellaneous things there.....but my cards will be all Etsy all the time. Thanks so much for all of your support!!!!!

High Hopes challenge #34 ~ a sketch!

Good morning everyone!! It's Sunday & that means it's High Hopes challenge day!! Today we have a sketch challenge for you! Gotta love sketch challenges....half the work is done for you!

I chose to flip the sketch for my card....

I used the adorable Ladybug Stroll.....colored with Prismas & gamsol (shocking, I know). The papers are all Basic Grey Bittersweet, except for the almost-but-not-quite black matting, which is Bazzill. The red layer was embossed with Swiss Dots.....the flowers are all punched....& the swirl is a Sizzlit die. I used my Spica glitter pens....clear for mama's dress ruffles & black for their doolyboppers.

I was hoping you could see the shimmer in this picture, but I'm not seeing it. But isn't that baby bug the cutest???

Go check out what the other divas created on the High Hopes blog.....if you play, & link your card to THIS POST you could win some High Hopes goodies!!

So what are you up to this fine Sunday? I've actually caught a bug (but not a ladybug!!) & am feeling rather out of sorts. Sore throat....headache....ugh. Must be from all the end of school excitement! So....I may just hang out & do some laundry & catch up on some blogs. I have to clean my house but.....no rush....did I mention school is out & summer vacation has officially begun? :) I have all summer to clean my house, & all summer for the boys to trash it!!!

Our beloved Mrs. Murphy

Well, I told you I was trying to get teacher gifts done.....& I finally finished my card for Michael's kindergarten teacher. A bunch of us went in together & got her a gift card, but I wanted to give her a card & something I bought her years ago (more on that later).

Mrs. Murphy LOVES bumblebees. Her whole classroom is decorated with them, so I knew I had to use this Tilda for her card. I used Garden Green for the base, Bravo Burgundy for the matte & the pattern paper is Bo Bunny. It's actually Xmas paper....but it worked for this card. The larger scallop is the reverse side....I think the paper is called Christmas Dots (this paper was in my stash & of course I didn't have the actual name anymore). I colored Tilda with Prismas & cut her out. I used jewelry wire for the antennae. Tried to keep it somewhat simple, adding just the burgundy ribbon & a flower/leaf combo.

Here's a close up of Miss Tilda...I added glitter to the bee's wings, but I'm not sure you can see it.

Here's the inside....had to keep it simple & the writing area big enough...I have lots to say, lol!

And here is what I am giving her. It's a box decorated with flowers & bees & says "Bee Happy". My older son Matthew had Mrs. Murphy for kindergarten 4 years ago. The summer after he finished K, a great new store opened up near us & I found this adorable gift set. I thought "Well, this would have been perfect for Mrs. Murphy". Thinking about it, I knew that when Michael started kindergarten, I would be requesting her, so I bought it. I was worried the candles would lose their smell over time & was prepared to fill it with something else, but they are as aromatic as ever, even through the plastic! I can't believe I'm finally giving this to her, lol. I also made her a candy jar & filled it with chocolates......but I didn't take a picture of that.

I hope she likes it. I'm going to be a very sad sack tomorrow. The kids go just for 3 hours, then they are done. I told her I wanted to come in & just sit in the middle of the classroom & cry, lol. I know.....you all are thinking "What is she going to be like when her kids graduate from high school?". I don't want to talk about it.

Thanks so much for visiting....one more card to make & I'm done with school stuff!
